Cardiothoracic Unisex Vest

The unisex C.A.T.S Vest has been designed with new technologies and high-quality fabrics to promote patient comfort and assist in rehabilitation after cardiothoracic surgery. It has been designed in the UK by clinical experts in cardiothoracic and surgical site infection prevention.

Available in 20cm depth that will accommodate most patients but also available in 26cm depth if required.

Riser pads are available separately for male patients here.

The adjustable unisex vest is intended for use after cardiac surgery resulting in a closed central chest wound or minimally invasive wound. The vest may be worn day and night to provide comfort and support during the recovery period.

We advise that all of our support garments are machine washed under a normal setting at a maximum 40°C. Garments should then be hung and allowed to dry naturally which helps to ensure longer lasting performance. We also suggest that fastenings are secured/closed during any wash cycle. For best results we would also suggest garments are placed in a 'wash-bag' although this is not necessary.

Patient Reviews

"I was given this vest to help my recovery from open heart surgery. This product really did its job. I felt a sense of security. I knew my chest had been opened and I felt the vest gave me both a physical and psychological feeling of comfort knowing everything was being carefully supported. I know that wounds need to be kept closed to heal I know I had staples but it felt like the vest gave extra support stopping any movement or coughing from opening my wound. It felt comfortable and was easily put on. I really liked the mitten application idea. It was easy to get the correct pressure I wanted on my chest. It reduced my pain level to a certain extent. I did not like taking it off. I felt overall much more confident and comfortable while wearing the vest. My wife could also easily wash it in the home washing machine with no problem."

"I actually would have really not been happy going through open heart surgery without that vest and anybody going in for that operation should know about that vest because without it the whole experience would have been more painful, uncomfortable both physically and psychologically."

Bob, Cardio Thoracic Patient
Royal Papworth Hospital

"Thank you for helping me find a suitable sternum support following my chest surgery last week. Having looked at the possible options on the market I chose the below support (C.A.T.S Vest) and placed the order on day 5 after my surgery, the day I left Papworth. The support arrived the next day and I have found it very good in both support and giving me additional confidence when needing to move, it’s been beneficial when getting in and out of bed, or anything such as the need to cough."

"The reason I chose this item was due to the delivery time offered, it arrived next day, the width of the shoulder straps, the depth of the chest support and the hand pocket you can use to gently hold your chest when you feel additional support is needed."

"You did state that you would be looking to obtain more CATS to try with patients at Papworth so I thought I would let you know that I can recommend this item."

Hospital Review

"The feedback that surgeons, nurses and patients have given about the vests is great. They are easy to use and very efficient. We could not be happier with them."
